Distribution? Empty Distribution?

Post  Firestorm0901 Fri Sep 25, 2009 10:53 pm

Hi Everyone! FIRST POST! Huge fan of the work being done. Figured I would pose a question or two? Was wondering how many parts Darknal was shooting for and if at the end of it all would he put the movie cut together in order on DVD with bonus features like the interview he just gave or commentary and sell it to fans. The Red vs Blue franchise ended up doing that and was hoping the same would happen here. I would love to own The Forgotten Spartans on DVD. Anyway just figured I would throw that out there and see what everyone thought about the idea and maybe get an answer from the big man himself. CHEERS!!!

I think a DVD would be an awesome accessory for fans of the series to have. I also like the idea of an interview or commentary as a bonus feature.
I would love to do something like as I am a technology geek (SORT OF!!) and I could do this, but I don't think it would happen, I don't have a reason behind it but I don'tr think Darknal wants to spend $200 on DVD's and then burn 100 copies of the film and bonus features onto a disc.
Just saying.

Distribution? Empty Dark Creations creating DVD's

Post  UAstudios Tue Mar 02, 2010 10:41 pm

Microsoft recently has come out with a new License prohbiting distribution of their material unless given explicit permission by them. Something involving the End-User License Agreement (EULA).
The only reason Red vs Blue is allowed to distribute DVD's is beacuse they also work for microsoft studios. So I guess their able to bend the rules a little.
Thats my input info was taken from http://www.microsoft.com/About/Legal/EN/US/IntellectualProperty/Permissions/Default.aspx

Distribution? Empty Well the RoosterTeeth guys asked.

When some people say that RoosterTeeth was able to sell the DVDs because it was on Microsoft's behalf, they're wrong. In fact they asked for permission from Microsoft for them to give up a piece of copyright pie. They did, and now if Darknal wants to sell it, he'll have to try and woo Microsoft into giving up their rights again. And even if he were to give up his rights, just look at how much DVD duplicators/burners cost! The cheapest one on TigerDirect is around $300 bucks. You'd say that once it's converted to GBP it's not too much, but let's go to Misco and see. With the EU and UK's VAT it's 201 pounds! Plus, we also have to factor in the overhead costs of the actual DVDs. And way before that we have to get a DVD burner to make the FIRST DVD. And he wouldn't want to dissapoint his North American fans would he? That's another few thousand pounds to get the DVDs in NTSC. How about Blu-Ray? That's gonna be a lot of money out of Darknal's pocket! So I don't see him making a DVD anytime soon. Neutral
